Heathcote, Vic

18 January ~ David and I went to the country town of Heathcote, Victoria. Its an hour and forty five minute drive north of Melbourne. We spent a little time chatting with the lady at the tourist information centre. She had a good story to tell about the local councilman/yabby farmer who missed one to many Council meetings and is now yabby farming in China and making a fortune. Lunch was byo Aussie bbq. Yum! In the majority of the towns and Parks you can find a picnic area with electric bbq's. Its wonderful. Just pack a few sausages and 'sauce' (ketchup) and as the Kiwi's say, Bob's your uncle. After lunch we had a look at the Pink Cliffs, the remains of gold mining in the 1800's. The area was mined down to bedrock. Since then, iron deposits have washed over it through the last century leaving multiple shades of pink gully like hills. We then drove up to Mt Ida and did a short walk to the top for a scenic view of the bush. There are so many great place to travel around Victoria and most have a look out of some sort. We topped off the day with afternoon tea of vanilla slices and coffee at the local bakery.

Point Leo

11 January ~ A picture perfect day for a trip to Point Leo Beach. Its located on Western Port Bay in Victoria, Australia. This was our first day trip of 2010. We shared a picnic lunch with friends and spent  most of the day lounging around and walking the beach. There are beautiful rock pools and the beach offers a lot for beach combers seeking treasures of rocks and shells. (that's me!) On our way back home we stopped into Merrick's General Store Cafe for afternoon tea. And old general store that has been turned into a trendy cafe.
It was a good day with dear friends.

Welcome to our day trips, and possible ramblings of thoughts or other travels.

Day Trips and Other Ramblings will give you a look at the places we visit on the weekends. This being the beginning of a new year, I thought might be a good time to blog our outings. David and I usually do a day trip on Sunday. By attending church on Saturday nights, our Sundays are left free. We love to open the map and choose a country town. There are so many with in a 90 minute drive. Whatever town we go to, the people are always friendly. And most have a story to tell.
